    Frequently asked questions

YOU CAN BUY VEGA DE AGUÍN KIWIS RANGING FROM 3 KILOS IN A SINGLE-LAYER BOX OR 10 KILOS IN BULK AND UP TO 880 KILO PALLETS WITH A COMBINATION OF FORMATS.

The Asturian kiwi sales season runs from 1 December to 30 June approximately. Kiwis are harvested in November and have a maximum shelf life of 6-7 months from this date onwards. From May-June, we receive kiwifruit from the southern hemisphere (New Zealand, Chile… )

At Vega D’Aguín, we produce zero residue fruit, which translates into kiwifruit that has not been treated with hormones and that has been grown in a sustainable manner: free from pesticides, herbicides or insecticides. Only state-of-the-art biodegradable crop protection products are used in the kiwifruit plantation. Asturias is the ideal environment for kiwifruit thanks to its humid and temperate climate, and we want to return the favour by taking care of this fertile land. Sustainable farming is vital for protecting the environment!

Of all the high-fibre foods – some fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain products – kiwifruit is the preferred choice for those suffering from digestive problems or irritable bowel syndrome. The reason is that kiwis are high in fibre, but do not cause bloating like other foods with similar fibre content. In fact, by speeding up digestion, people report a pleasant feeling of lightness. Vega de Aguín kiwis contain 2.7 g of dietary fibre per 100 g. Follow a varied and healthy diet that includes kiwis to reap all the benefits of fibre!

Potassium, a mineral found in our diet, provides numerous health benefits. However, when we look for a source of potassium to increase our potassium intake, we always think of bananas. In fact, there are several alternatives with potassium and kiwis are among them. Vega de Aguín kiwis contain 290.5 mg of potassium per 100 g. Therefore, a recipe that includes 2 kiwis already provides an intake of more than 500 mg. Put your culinary creativity to the test and try Vega de Aguín kiwifruit jam, smoothies or toast.

Vitamin B9, known as folate, is not produced by the human body but comes from plants. It is extremely important for our bodies – especially when we are growing – so children need to include it in their diet. Although vitamin supplements containing folic acid are available, eating fruit is the best way to get vitamin B9, an extremely healthy habit in childhood. There is also another compelling reason: folate is destroyed when food is cooked. Kiwis provide folate and are a healthy snack that is highly recommended for children.

During pregnancy, it is advisable to control the nutrients you are ingesting and monitor your diet more than ever. Pregnant women often increase their intake of foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Pregnancy is fraught with changes and restrictions, so the question arises as to which foods are most beneficial. Fortunately, kiwifruit is one of the fruits recommended during pregnancy because of its nutritional value, especially because of its high folate (B9) content. Vega de Aguín kiwis are 83.4% water, providing vitamin C (87.2 mg/100g) and antioxidants. For this reason, they are an ideal choice for a healthy and light snack and are extremely beneficial during pregnancy.

Ripe kiwis have a characteristic sweet aftertaste derived from natural sugars, but this does not translate into a higher calorie count. Vega de Aguín kiwis contain 46 kcal per 100 grams, a tiny amount. In addition to their low calorie density and low sugar content, they are also satiating. You can add kiwis to your diet without worrying about gaining weight, enjoy their refreshing flavour with no regrets!

Of all the fruits containing vitamin C, kiwifruit is often overlooked. Vega de Aguín kiwis contain 87.2 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams, far exceeding the average vitamin C content of an orange. They also provide vitamins A, K and B6. Eating kiwifruit every day is extremely beneficial and is immediately noticeable: the increased production of collagen as a result of the vitamin C increases the skin’s elasticity. The rest of the vitamins help the body to function properly. Kiwifruit is a natural and delicious source of vitamins!
